On-ice official honour for Dalton at World Championship

UK official Andy Dalton will be one of the linesmen at this year’s World Championship in Slovakia.

Dalton will be part of a team 16 referees and 16 linesmen in the top flight of world ice hockey.

The 32 on-ice officials come from 14 different countries, with Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and the United States leading the way with four nominations each.

In 2016, Dalton officiated at the Olympic Final Qualifying tournament in Riga ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea and he has also officiated in the top level in Denmark since 2013.

“I am thrilled to be named as an official for the World Championship,” said Dalton.

“It will be a massive honour to step out and officiate games between the best teams in the world.”

Ice Hockey UK referee-in-chief, Joy Johnston, said: “This is a fully-deserved honour for Andrew.

“I would like to congratulate Andrew on his assignment at the World Championship.”

The World Championship runs from 10th to 26th May and for the first time in 25 years, Great Britain will be playing at the elite level.
