McGinlay replaces Nichols in GB U18 Women’s squad

Great Britain Under-18 Women have called up netminder Amelia McGinlay as a replacement for the injured Emma Nichols for the U18 Women’s World Championship Division I Group B tournament at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Nichols was injured in an off-ice accident this afternoon, so McGinlay has been called up and will arrive in Dumfries tomorrow.

GB begin the tournament tomorrow evening when they face Poland U18 Women at 8pm.

They also face France, Norway, China and Netherlands in the six-team IIHF tournament.

Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “We are very disappointed to lose Emma and she will be very much missed.

“It is heartbreaking for her but Emma will be back in the GB programme again I am sure.

“However, I had no hesitation in calling up Amelia onto the roster for the tournament.

“She is a great young netminder and I am sure she will fit in to the squad really well.”
