GB U18 Women name captaincy team for World Championship

Great Britain Under-18 Women have named their captaincy team for the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship Division I Group B tournament in Dumfries.

Lizzie Saunders will captain the side, with Verity Lewis and Kiana Tait named as alternate captains.

GB get their tournament under way this evening against Poland U18 Women (8pm), before facing France, Norway, China and Netherlands at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Saunders said: “I am very honoured to be captain. It has been a dream of mine.

“Our team has bonded really well. It should be a great tournament and I am really looking forward to it.”

Lewis said: “It is so great to be part of the leadership group and we are all excited to lead the team.

“Everyone is looking good on the ice and off the ice it is all going well.”

Tait said: “It is really exciting and definitely an honour to be given the role.

“We have bonded as a team and things have come together on the ice. I am excited to see how we perform this week.”
