GB U18 Women undergo first training session in Dumfries

Great Britain Under-18 Women have undergone their first training session in Dumfries ahead of the U18 Women’s World Championship, which gets under way on Sunday.

The Dumfries Ice Bowl is the venue for the IIHF Division I Group B tournament as GB host China, France, Poland, Netherlands and Norway.

The GB squad arrived in Dumfries last night and began this morning with an off-ice session.

They then took to the ice at lunchtime as they prepare for Sunday’s opening game with Poland U18 Women (8pm).

There has been plenty of media interest in the tournament and ITV Border were at the session to interview coaches and players.

Assistant coach, Jayne McClelland, said: “It was good to get everyone out on the ice to get ready for Poland.

“We have a great group of girls and the coaching staff know that they are ready for five tough games in the next week.

“Some of these girls have played at this level before while others haven’t, but they are all focused on the job in hand.

“Everyone is looking forward to playing on home ice and I am sure it will be a great week.”
