Slovenia Women 1-4 Great Britain Women

Great Britain Women set up a winner-takes-all showdown with Netherlands on Friday after a 4-1 victory over Slovenia Women in the World Championship Division II Group A in Maribor.

Angela Taylor took her tally for the tournament to four goals, while netminder Nicole Jackson turned away 15 of the 16 shots she faced.

Britain went ahead at 16:45 when Beth Hill scored her second goal of the tournament as she floated the puck past Pia Dukaric from the left point.

GB dominated on the shot count in the first period but Jackson had to be at her best to keep out efforts from Sara Confidenti and Pia Pren.

Katie Henry scored her second goal in as many games with a smart backhand finish on the doorstep early in the second period (21:56).

Taylor then put GB 3-0 ahead as she found room in the right circle for a pinpoint finish past Dukaric (24:50).

GB saw the game out in the final period and Sophie Herbert made it four when she scored on the rebound after Sarah Hutchinson’s shot was saved.

Slovenia had their best spell of the game and Confidenti’s neat finish at 54:24 got the hosts on the scoresheet.

There are no games tomorrow but GB’s gold-medal game with Netherlands takes place on Friday at 4:30pm (3:30pm UK time).

Both sides are level on 12 points with four wins from four, so the winners will be promoted to Division I Group B for next season.
