Great Britain Under-18s lost a nine-goal thriller in Tallinn as they were beaten 5-4 by Poland Under-18s in the World Championship Division II Group A.
Mason Alderson-Biddulph scored twice to take his tally to five goals for the tournament but GB, who had trailed 3-1 at one stage, threw away a 4-3 second-period lead to lose for the first time in the tournament.
The two sides exchanged five goals in a frantic first period, started off by Poland’s Kamil Walega ripping a shot from the slot at 4:01.
Alderson-Biddulph deflected in Edward Bradley’s shot to equalise at 8:10, but Poland regained the lead on the powerplay through Jakob Prokurat (14:39).
Poland took a two-goal advantage through Damian Tyczynski’s finish through the five-hole (16:51), before Alderson-Biddulph stepped out from behind the net and slipped the puck under the netminder’s glove to close the gap 16 seconds later (17:07).
Britain turned the game on its head with two goals in less than four minutes in the second period.
Reece Cochrane ghosted into the right circle to level the game at three on a delayed penalty (30:52), while Liam Kirk set up Kieran Brown who pulled a move on the netminder and his backhand finish put GB ahead (34:43).
But Poland came back to equalise with less than seven minutes remaining as Tyczynski bustled his way through for his second goal of the game (53:26).
And the winning goal arrived at 57:32 as Jakub Lewandowski converted after a neat breakout from Poland.
There are no games in the tournament tomorrow but GB return to action on Thursday with a game against Lithuania at 1pm (11am UK time).
