GB Women down the Dutch

Great Britain Women produced a fantastic performance as they beat Netherlands Women 2-1 in Tilburg.

It was the second of two games this weekend between the two sides, after Netherlands won the first encounter 3-1 in Dondrecht on Saturday.

Netherlands play their hockey in the World Championship level above GB, so the two games were excellent preparation for the upcoming Division 2A tournament in Dumfries.

GB started the game with high intensity and were unlucky not to score in the first period.

And it was no surprise when GB took the lead at 35:28 with Chrissy Newman beating the last player and the assist going to Georgina Farman.

Farman made it 2-0 at 40:36, before the Netherlands netted at 49:03 to set up a tense finish, but GB held on for a very impressive victory.

Head coach, Paul Burton, said: “We set out to improve every period and we did.

“There is still a lot to do before the World Championships, but this weekend was a great step in the process and allowed us to see most of the squad players

“We iced four lines and both netminders and everything the players were asked to do they did.”
