GB Women Defeated by Netherlands

Great Britain Women were beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands in Dondrecht on Saturday in the first of two matches between the two sides this weekend.

Netherlands raced into a three-goal first-period lead, scoring at 2:03, 11:42 and 11:56, before a scoreless second session.

Louise Adams netted in period three (59:20), assisted by Katie Henry and Natalie Aldridge, to get GB on the board in the final period.

The two sides meet again tomorrow in Tilburg.

Head coach, Paul Burton, said: “This Netherlands side have been together since September and they play every week in the Netherlands’ Men’s Division 2.

“The team is fast and aggressive – and show they have been working as a unit for some time.

“The difference in refereeing at this level of the women’s game was apparent and, after the first period, the team started fighting fire with fire.

“They improved every period and that was a real plus for us.

“Tomorrow sees us back on the ice and I expect to see the team improve again.”
