GB U20 To Play Finland In Warm-Up

Great Britain Under-20s will play a warm-up game in Finland as part of their final preparations for the 2015 U20 World Championship (Division 2A).

The GB youngsters will face Helsinki U20s on Friday 5th December on their way to the IIHF tournament in Tallinn.

The six-team competition, which also includes Estonia (hosts), Korea, Lithuania, Netherlands and Romania, runs from 7th to 13th December 2014.

Head coach, Pete Russell, said: “This is perfect preparation for us as we get ready for the tournament.

“We will come up against high-quality opposition, so it will give us chance to work on so many different things.”

GB 20s held a two-day camp at the beginning of the month, which also included a warm-up game against Nottingham Lions.

Russell believes that his side’s preparation has already been extensive and has been a massive boost for his squad.

“The camp went well and we achieved our goals for where we want to be at this stage of the process,” he continued.

“We worked a lot on our transitional play at both ends of the rink as this will be a key area.

“We are now ready to head to Finland and complete our pre-tournament prep and then move into Estonia for the championships.

“We will take it one day and one game at a time. Our aim is to win our first game and develop each period to being a better team all over the rink.

“Tournament hockey is different and it’s all about a process.

“We must start well but we must get better and peak at the right stage. I have a good feeling about our group.”
