Russell Names GB Captaincy Team

Great Britain head coach Pete Russell has named his captains for the upcoming World Championship tournament in Eindhoven.

Jonathan Phillips will once again be captain of GB, with Robert Dowd and Mark Richardson as his assistants.

GB warm-up for the IIHF Division 1B tournament with international games against Poland on Thursday in Nottingham and Friday in Coventry.

Russell said: “These are a very experienced trio to lead us in the World Championship.

“They are well respected by the squad and have plenty of experience at international tournament.”

Phillips said: “I am so thrilled to be leading GB again and excited to be in charge of the team in the Netherlands.

“It is always a proud moment for me to lead the squad. We have a great group of guys this year and I cannot wait to work with them next week.”

Dowd added: “I was thrilled to be asked by Pete to be assistant captain.

“Playing for your country is the ultimate honour but to actually be part of the captaincy team is very special indeed.”

Richardson said: “It is a very special moment for me to take on this role within the GB squad.

“Wearing an A in Netherlands will be one of the biggest moments in my career and I am excited to take up the role.”
