Scott Plews has been appointed as assistant coach of the new Great Britain Under-16s.
The 39-year-old, who was born in Scotland, represented GB at under-18 level in his playing career and also iced for various teams in the UK, including Fife, Edinburgh, Paisley and Dundee.
Plews, who has been a successful coach for Scotland at junior level, joins head coach Robert Wilkinson and assistant Sean Easton in completing the under-16 coaching set-up.
He has coached Scotland U13s, U15s and U17s, as well as being assistant coach of Scotland Under-19s.
Domestically, he has led the Fife juniors to success at under-20 level in the last two seasons.
“Having coached for around six years now, I’ve always had an eye on pushing for a position in the GB set-up,” said Plews.
“When I saw that that GB Under-16s were starting up and Rob (Wilkinson) was the head coach, I literally thought to myself that I’d love to be part of that.
“To then be asked was a great feeling and it is a job that I will relish.
“I’m really looking forward to joining up with Rob, who I have known for over 20 years and enjoy listening to him when we chat junior hockey.
“He speaks highly of Sean (Easton) who I also look forward to meeting and working with.”
Wilkinson added: “When I was appointed head coach, Scott was one of the names I had in mind for the assistant coach role.
“I’ve known Scott for a few years having played against him in my playing days.
“His personality should be a perfect fit with Sean and myself.”
