GB Women’s Trial A Great Success

Great Britain Women held their first of three trials at the weekend ahead of the 2015-16 season.

The first trial – which was attended by 41 skaters – took place at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham, with further camps at Dumfries this weekend and in Sheffield on Sunday 23rd August 2015.

Skaters attending the trial went through on-ice training, with these camps beginning the process of selecting a squad for the season.

GB Women will play in Division 2A of the World Championship this season and the tournament will take place in Slovenia in April 2016.

Coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “It was great to see so many people at the trials and it proves that the desire to represent your country remains so high.

“We want the trial system to be open and fair to everyone, so that’s why we hold the open trial dates for anyone to attend.

“Even the current players have to attend the trial and we think it is the fairest system to choose the best girls for our squad this year.”

Coach, Michelle Smith, added: “It was a very healthy trial and we learnt a lot about the girls who attended.

“Obviously we got to see some of the players we know well again, but also see some players for the first time.

“This was an excellent camp and I am looking forward to the ones in Dumfries and Sheffield in the coming weeks.”
