GB Women undergo final World Championship preparations

Great Britain Women underwent their final preparations this weekend ahead of leaving for Maribor on Thursday for the World Championship Division II Group A tournament.

GB had a day in Sheffield on Saturday with off-ice training, team building at a go-kart venue and a match in the afternoon against Whitley Bay Under-20s.

Britain face hosts Slovenia, along with Australia, DPR Korea, Mexico and the Netherlands from 31st March to 6th April.

The day began with a team event at a local go-karting venue before some off-ice work ahead of the game against Whitley.

Katie Henry scored the winning penalty shot as GB won 4-3 after the game had ended tied at 3-3 in regulation time.

Henry also scored in the game while Katherine Gale and Jodie-Leigh Bloom were also on target.

Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “This was a really important day in Sheffield and it went very well.

“The girls had a lot of fun go-karting and that set the tone for the day.

“This was the last chance we had to meet before leaving for Maribor and every one of the players were in attendance, even the overseas players on the roster.

“I was happy with how we played against Whitley. The result wasn’t important, although it was good to win.

“The main thing was getting match practice and working on our systems.”
