GB U20s 4-1 St Polten

Great Britain Under-20s completed their trip to Slovakia with a 4-1 victory over St Polten on Thursday evening.

The week-long training camp is part of GB’s preparations for their World Championship (Division 1B) tournament in Budapest in December.

The victory completed two wins out of two for Tommy Watkins’ side after Wednesday’s 3-1 success over Extraliga U20s side Hoba Bratislava.

Basingstoke Bison forward Ivan Antonov scored twice, while Manchester Phoenix netminder Denis Bell conceded only once in an impressive performance.

Antonov’s short-handed goal gave GB the lead in the first period and Edinburgh Capitals defenceman Tyler Plews made it 2-0 at 21:53.

Sheffield Steelers forward Cole Shudra scored GB’s third only 39 seconds later (22:32), Antonov grabbed his second at 45:20 before St Polten broke Bell’s shutout.

Watkins said: “This was another excellent performance and I am very happy with what I saw.

“We have played two strong junior sides over the last couple of days and really upped our intensity.

“There are so many positives to take not just from the two games, but the training camp as a whole.”
