Dowd Returns To GB Line-Up

Great Britain forward Robert Dowd will return to the line-up for today’s game with Romania at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb.

The Sheffield Steelers forward had scored two goals in two games, before being admitted to hospital on Tuesday after suffering from abdominal pains.

After staying in hospital overnight on Tuesday, he returned on Wednesday and sat in the stands for GB’s 8-0 win over Lithuania.

He has now been passed fit to return to the ice for today’s game against Romania.

Head coach, Pete Russell, said: “It will be great to get Robert back on the ice.

“He is excited to be back in the line-up and the boys are glad to see him back.”

GB sit second in the six-team group, behind leaders Ukraine, following two regulation-time wins and an overtime victory in their first three games.

Romania are without win so far in the tournament and the only team without a point.

“We must respect the opposition, despite the fact they have been struggling,” said Russell.

“I want to see a professional performance and we must not get carried away.

“Romania will be desperate for their first win the tournament and we cannot not disrespect them.

“But we have a team of professional players and I know that they will remain focused.

“They have worked hard every game since we have been at this tournament and I see no reason why they won’t do the same today.”

GB against Romania faces-off at 1pm in Zagreb (12noon UK time).
