Bowns: GB Were Unreal

Netminder Ben Bowns says Great Britain were “unreal” in their 8-0 victory over Lithuania yesterday at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb.

There were eight different goalscorers for GB, while Bowns secured the first shutout of his international career.

The result moved GB up to second in the group and a point behind leaders Ukraine.

“It was unreal to watch,” said Bowns. “I said after the Croatia game, that was the best I have seen GB since I came into the program.

“And then last night we absolutely blew that to pieces. It was just sheer domination from the get-go.

“When Jonathan Phillips got the first goal short-handed, it just kick-started us.

“It rattled them and we then just kept going and going.

“It sounds quiet cheesy but I was really proud of the guys.”

Bowns faced only 10 shots in the game and was thrilled to get his first shutout, although he paid tribute to his team-mates.

“It was nice to get the monkey off my back,” said Bowns.

“A shutout is always nice to get but, to be honest, the team were unreal in front of me.

“You can’t really complain when you have 10 shots in a game.”

GB play their fourth game of the tournament tomorrow as they take on Romania at 1pm (12noon UK time).
