Successful GB Goalie Camp in Nottingham

A Great Britain goalie camp took place at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham last week.

The GB goalie programme has identified 21 young goalies from across the UK to take part in a series of camps prior to invitations being sent for next year’s GB trials.

Head of the GB Goaltending Development Programme, Gary Brine, said: “The objective of the programme is to identify and nurture young goalie talent.

“Our aim is to provide them with practical skills and off-ice advice to advance their ability, which in turn will help the GB programme.

“We ran our eye over a number of prospects with the youngest being Cameron Lees from Scotland who was born in 2011.

“Everyone knows a team is built from the goalie forward and we want to make sure GB juniors are sending the very best goalies to World Championship tournaments.

“Myself, Dave Clancy and John Russell will now scout the group and add any other talent we see.”

The next camp takes place in February next year and plans are now being drawn up to include the top female prospects.
