Lions Game Will Be Great Test

Great Britain Under-20s head coach Pete Russell says Tuesday’s game against Nottingham Lions will be a great test for his youngsters, as they step up their preparations for December’s World Championship tournament.

GB face the NIHL Laidler Conference side at the National Ice Centre on Tuesday (7:30pm), ahead of the IIHF Division 2A tournament in Tallinn from 7th to 13th December 2014.

Russell’s side will face hosts Estonia, along with Korea, Lithuania, Netherlands and Romania in the six-team tournament.

He said: “I am really looking forward to giving the squad some match practice.

“We have had some great camps so far and there is a great spirit, but I need to see them in match situations as a team.

“This will be excellent preparation for the youngsters ahead of December’s tournament.

“The Lions have a great side and I know they have called up some extra players for this game.

“I will be able to see what decisions the youngsters make as a group in a game situation and this will help fine-tune ahead of Estonia.

“Hopefully as many GB fans in the local area can come out and support us and see some of the stars of the future.”

All tickets are priced at just £3 and can be purchased from the NIC box office on the night of the game, with all proceeds going to the Lions’ 2014-15 charity partner Special Olympics Nottinghamshire.
