Houston & Lewis Begin Qualification For Youth Olympics

Great Britain ice hockey competitors Lewis Houston (Solway) and Verity Lewis (Bracknell) start the elimination section of the IIHF Global Skills qualification in Vierumaki today.

The duo are aiming to follow in the footsteps of Katherine Gale and Lewis Hook and qualify for the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

Gale and Hook took part in the 2012 Games in Innsbruck and now Houston and Lewis are looking to qualify for the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Norway.

Athletes from all around the world are currently in Finland and the top 15 male and female competitors will qualify for Lillehammer.

Participants take part in six disciplines; fastest lap, skating agility, pass accuracy, puck control, shooting accuracy and hardest shot.

IHUK held qualification rounds for both male and female with Houston and Lewis the two to qualify.

Ice Hockey UK general secretary, Andy French, said: “These are very exciting times for Lewis and Verity.

“The have settled very well over here and are looking in good shape.

“It would be a massive honour for them to represent GB at the Youth Olympics and I sure everyone back home is wishing them the best of luck over the next few days.”
