Great Britain U18s head coach Martin Grubb hopes his youngsters can draw inspiration from their under-20 counterparts who won promotion earlier this season.
The under-18s begin their World Championship (Division 2A) tournament in Tallinn on Sunday, at the same venue where the under-20s won the gold medal back in December.
GB will do battle with hosts Estonia, along with Croatia, Korea, Netherlands and Poland, for a place in Division 1B next season.
The GB youngsters travel to Finland this week to have the same preparations as the under-20s, which includes a warm-up game against a young Helsinki side.
Grubb said: “It is great that we are going back to the venue where the under-20s won the gold medal.
“A number of boys in this squad played in the tournament back in December, so that is a major positive.
“We know we need to improve on last season’s showing and I think we are very well prepared.
“Tournament hockey is very quick and there is no time to relax, so we must be focused day in and day out.
“The warm-up game and camp in Helsinki will be a massive boost and I know it helped the under-20s so much.”
