Verity Lewis scored the overtime winner as Great Britain Women beat Mexico Women 3-2 in the World Championship Division II Group A at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.
Katie Marsden scored her seventh international goal and Saffron Allen her 14th as GB secured their second win of the tournament.
GB pile on the chances but no goals
As with GB’s first two games they had an excellent first period and outshot Mexico 13-1, as Casey Traill created her own chance with a great piece of skill, while Allen and Jodie Bloom also went close.
Aimee Headland and Chloe Headland combined to set up a chance for Marsden but she was denied from close range.
Mexico were up against it for much of the period but in the closing stages Maria Chavez hit the post and Claudia Tellez’s close-range shot produced a great save from Sam Bolwell.

Mexico jammed the puck in at the near post but the whistle had already gone and it served as a warning to GB, as moments later Tellez netted at the backdoor at 23:52.
Steph Towns fired just wide from the slot as GB put the pressure back on and they scored a superb equaliser when Marsden cut inside from the right and fired through the five-hole at 33:02.
The goal sparked GB into life and they scored again a little over two minutes later as Traill fired a bullet from just inside the blueline and captain Allen got the tip (35:19).
Lewis wins it in overtime
Mexico hit back early in the third period as good work from Tellez set up Giovanna Rojas to score from close range at 44:23.
Bolwell had to make two point-blank saves from a late Mexico powerplay to help take the game to overtime.
GB took advantage on their own powerplay as moments after Georgina Farman hit the post, she combined with Towns to set up Lewis who scored with a terrific top-shelf wrist shot from the right circle to win it (61:02).
Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “We created so many chances again but just had no end product at times.
“We have to learn to take our opportunities and create more movement off the puck.
“But we dug deep and I liked our control. We worked the four-on-three powerplay well for the winning goal.
“We can now work on things tomorrow and get ready for Spain on Sunday.”
In today’s other games, Slovenia beat Australia 6-1 and they are top after three matches, while DPR Korea beat Spain 2-1 after a penalty shootout.
It means Spain are second, DPR Korea third and GB Women fourth.
There are no games tomorrow but the action returns on Sunday when Mexico play Australia (1:30pm), Slovenia face DPR Korea (4:30pm) and GB take on Spain (8pm).
