GREAT BRITAIN 0-2 DENMARK

Great Britain were beaten 2-0 by Denmark in their international match at the Skydome in Coventry.

Both sides iced 23-man rosters with Jordan Hedley, Ben O’Connor, Scott Conway and Sam Duggan sitting out for GB, while Ben Bowns got the start between the pipes.

GB looked lively in the opening stages as Josh Waller fired over from the left-hand side, Robert Lachowicz saw his shot saved and Robert Dowd went close after breaking at speed into the offensive zone.

At the other end, Bowns had to be at his best to deny Frederik Storm and Patrick Bjorkstrand either side of the first intermission.

Denmark when ahead when Peter Regin jabbed home a rebound after Bowns had saved Oliver Larsen’s shot from the blueline (24:17).

Dowd was denied at point-blank range by Denmark netminder Frederik Dichow, before Joachim Blichfeld’s doorstep rebound put the Danes 2-0 ahead (36:24).

In the third period, Lewis Hook forced a turnover to set-up Ross Venus but his close-range shot was saved, while Evan Mosey was denied from the slot.

GB lifted Bowns for the extra skater for the final 63 seconds and Matthew Myers went close, but Dichow stood firm to secure his shutout.

The two sides are straight back in action tomorrow as they go head-to-head at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham (4pm).
