GB Women to begin Olympic Qualifying campaign in Korea next year

Great Britain Women will travel to Korea next year to begin their bid to qualify for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

As well as facing the hosts Korea, GB will come up against Slovenia and a qualifier from the previous round.

The tournament will take place in Gangneung from 11th to 14th February 2021 at the same venue that hosted ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

GB Women’s head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “Anytime you start an Olympic journey it’s exciting.

“It’s going to be a busy year in 2021 but everyone involved in the women’s programme is really looking forward to getting started.

“There was so much disappointment when this year’s World Championship was called off, but we can put that behind us and start planning for a busy season ahead.

“I am excited by the talent in the GB Women’s programme at the moment and there is so much to be optimistic about for the future.”

It will be Great Britain Women’s second trip to Gangneung in less than four years after the World Championship Division II Group A was held there in 2017.
