Great Britain opened their World Championship campaign with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Italy this lunchtime in Riga.
After a scoreless opening period, GB netted their opener on 37.55 when Jodie Alderson-Smoth slotted the puck past Martina Fedel in the Italy goal. The assists went to Kathryn Marsden and Laura Horwood.
GB were outshot 2:1 in the final period (8 shots v 17 shots) but Nicole Jackson in the GB goal stood firm to collect a 44 shot shutout, and the Player of the Game Award, as GB took the 3 points.
