GB U18 Women 0-9 Denmark U18 Women

GB U18 Women were beaten by Denmark in their opening game at the World Championship (Division 1 Qualification) in Katowice.

Period scores of 0-2, 0-4, 0-3 saw them slip to a 9-0 defeat against the Danes, in a game where they were outshot 58-9.

Netminder Molly Brooks (Nottingham) faced 33 shots and was replaced 14 minutes into the second period by Holly Steeples (Nottingham), who then faced 25 shots.

Head coach, Sean Alderson, said: “Outshot 58-9 tonight tells the story.

“We were pretty much on the backfoot for the whole game and struggled to create any kind of offence.

“The Danes’ speed caused us problems all night, forcing errors which they then punished us for.

“It’s been a bad night and the girls are hurting from the heavy defeat.

“But we will get back to work tomorrow, rest up and prepare for our game against Italy on Wednesday.”

In today’s other games, Kazakhstan beat China 2-1 after penalty shots, while Italy were 5-1 winners over hosts Poland.

GB against Italy faces-off at 12noon UK time on Wednesday.
