Spain U18 Women 0-3 Great Britain U18 Women

Emily Harris scored twice as Great Britain Under-18 Women got their four-team international tournament in Scotland off to a winning start by beating Spain U18 Women 3-0 at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Harris, who grabbed a hat-trick in Wednesday night’s challenge game with a Dumfries & Whitley Select side, netted in the first and third period before Lucy Beal scored on the powerplay.

Netminder Emma Nichols secured a 14-shot shutout.

Kiana Tait set-up Harris to fire top shelf and give GB a first-period lead, while Grace Garbett was denied from the slot in the second session.

Beal and Garbett combined on Harris’ second as she scored with a neat backhand finish through the five-hole at 42:31.

Garbett and Sophie Campbell then picked up the assists on Beal’s shot from the blueline on the powerplay (48:10).

Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “The result is pleasing but the performance is the most important thing.

“It is great to see already that this group of girls work so hard for each other and they have listened and taken in the gameplan.

“There were some great performances all over the ice. The girls who have experience of playing international games led the way and there were some excellent displays by the girls that are new to this level.

“As always there are things to work on but we can be very happy with this performance.”
