Slava: Players Are Smiling Again

Slava Koulikov says the Great Britain U20 squad have moved on from Sunday’s big loss to Poland and after a rest day are ready to face the hosts France on Tuesday night (1900 local/1800 GMT).

Koulikov, who joined the U20 programme as assistant coach ahead of this season, was speaking after the team practiced at the Palais des Sports on Monday afternoon.

“Today we tried to change the negatives from the last game into positives. It’s only a short tournament of a few days so you have to move on as quickly as possible and get ready for the next game.

“In a league season you have five days between games, and weeks and months to work with players. Here you have a day, sometimes only a morning skate to change things.

“As coaches we felt that it was important that the players moved on from the Poland game, learn the lessons and move on.

“We had a meeting this morning and a long video session and now an excellent practice on the ice. The guys are smiling again and we are ready to go.”

Great Britain return to game action on Tuesday night in the evening game against France, who currently top the group. GB will skate in the morning after breakfast before returning to their base for further analysis and preparation.

Tuesday’s game is at 7pm local time, 6pm GMT and coverage will be via the @TeamGBicehockey twitter account.
