Great Britain Under-18 Women suffered late heartbreak as a goal 93 seconds from time gave Poland U18 Women a 2-1 victory in Katowice.
GB outshot the host nation 22-19 in their third game at this season’s World Championship (Division 1B) and were left to rue missed chances.
Casey Traill’s close-range rebound put Britain ahead at 2:35, with the assists going to Ellie Wakeling and Abbie Sylvester.
Netminder Maisie Gilbert – named as GB’s player of the game – saved twice from Klaudia Kaleja early in period two, before the hosts drew level through Sandra Klimecka’s tip on the powerplay (30:55).
Emily Harris went close for GB at the start of the third period, while Amy Trueman was denied on a breakaway.
But Poland won it with a neat finish from the slot by Wiktoria Dziwok on the powerplay (58:27).
