KOREA WOMEN 3-2 GB WOMEN

Great Britain fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the tournaments top seeds on Saturday, but they pushed their hosts for the full 60 minutes and were unlucky not to come away with the points.

A tense opening period saw both teams fail to capitalise on powerplay opportunities early on. Ella Howard, in the GB nets was finally beaten on 14:32 when Jongah Park opened the scoring the the host nation.

Korea doubled their lead early in the middle period. With Bethany Hill sitting a 2 minute Delay of Game penalty, Heewon Kim scored on the resulting powerplay on 24:44.

GB fought back quickly, and just 4 minutes later they broke Eun-Bee Huh’s shutout when Kathryn Marsden pulled a goal back, assisted by Katie Henry.

GB then shocked their hosts as they drew level on 32:30 thanks to a Katherine Gale powerplay snipe to silence the home crowd.

Both teams kept pushing forward lookimg to take the advantage, but it was Korea who found the net nexxt. With the clock running down, Katherine Gale was called for a holding penalty on 39:45 and with just 1 second of the period remaining Soojin Han scored the go ahead go for Korea.

The final period saw Great BBritain looking for the equalising goal, but Korea managed to hold on for the win at the final buzzer.

Kazakhstans loss to Poland on Saturday evening means that they will be relegated from Div 1B and Great Britain will retain their Div 1B status for another year.
