Great Britain Under-18 Women ended their World Championship (Division 1B) tournament in Katowice with a 4-2 victory over Kazakhstan Under-18 Women.
GB, who beat China U18 Women 2-1 after overtime on Thursday, had a brilliant start and raced into a 3-1 first-period lead.
Katie Marsden’s powerplay goal (12:50) was followed by Casey Traill’s third goal of the tournament, also on the powerplay (14:20).
Kazakstan scored a powerplay goal of their own through Alexandra Kokorina (18:01) and 18 seconds later Marsden netted her second of the game (18:19).
GB had to withstand Kazakhstan pressure in the second session and Maisie Gilbert twice made good saves from breakaways.
But Kazakhstan scored the only goal of the period through Alexandra Golotvina at 33:46 (powerplay).
In the third period, Aimee Headland went close for GB and Traill, who earlier in the session hit the post, wrapped the game up with an empty-net goal on her backhand from the neutral zone (59:40).
Coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “This was a fantastic performance and a great way to end the tournament.
“We have got stronger and stronger as the tournament went on. The team has grown together and it has been great to see.
“We came into this tournament almost as a new squad. We had our expectations and we have exceeded those.
“We have a clear path and for most of these girls it’s just the beginning.”

Verity Lewis was named as GB’s player of the game and Traill, who netted four goals in five games, won GB’s player of the tournament.
