GB Women 8-1 Croatia Women

Great Britain Women made it three wins out of three at the World Championship (Division 2A) in Dumfries with an 8-1 victory over Croatia Women.

Chrissy Newman bagged a hat-trick and Katie Henry scored twice, while netminder Nicole Jackson made 21 saves from 22 shots.

GB made a slow start and trailed by a goal at the end of the first period, with Ela Filipec breaking away left side to score (18:59).

But two goals in eight seconds after the interval turned the game on its head. Jodie Bloom (23:48) sneaked the puck home before Newman’s rebound made it two (23:56).

Natalie Aldridge (26:29) gave GB a two-goal advantage and a great feed from Bloom set up Newman for her second at 33:14.

Henry’s goal at 34:48 saw Great Britain lead 5-1 at the second interval.

Newman completed her hat-trick from the slot (44:13), before another Henry wonder goal arrived at 56:54, as she took the puck from Alice Lamb in her own zone and skated the length of the ice, beating all oncomers to make it 7-1.

Katherine Gale (59:07) completed the scoring as GB went top of the Division 2A table with a 100% record.

Rachel Serrell, who returned to action after missing Tuesday’s win over Korea, said: “We made a slow start but we worked together well and came out on top.

“We have a great group of girls and are so close. We are like one big family and we have a fantastic spirit.”

There are no games in the tournament tomorrow and GB return to action on Saturday against Poland (8pm).
