GB U18 Women announce World Championship squad

Great Britain Under-18 Women have named their squad for next month’s U18 Women’s World Championship Division I Group B in Dumfries.

The six-team IIHF tournament runs from 6th to 12th January 2019 at Dumfries Ice Bowl and GB will host China, France, Poland, Netherlands and Norway.

GB’s first game is on Sunday 6th January against Poland U18 Women, before facing France U18 Women the following day.

After a rest day, GB then go head-to-head with Norway U18 Women on Wednesday 9th January.

A second rest day is followed by GB facing China on Friday 11th January and the tournament is wrapped up with Great Britain against Netherlands 24 hours later.

Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “This was one of the toughest under-18 squads the coaching staff have ever had to name.

“There is so much competition for places but that is a great position to be in for the women’s programme.

“It will be a tough tournament for sure as there are some top nations competing and many of the roster are still very young.

“But we have had good preparation and I know the squad is really looking forward to playing on home ice.”
