GB 6-1 ROMANIA

Great Britain beat Romania 6-1 at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham in their final game at the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge.

It secured a clean-sweep of victories for GB this weekend after Friday’s 3-0 win over Japan and last night’s 4-1 victory against Poland.

Kirk’s powerplay goal gives GB the lead
GB took the lead on the powerplay as Robert Dowd and Nathanael Halbert combined to set-up Liam Kirk for a one-timer from the right circle (4:42).

Lewis Hook and Brandon Whistle both had chances short-handed but GB had to settle for just the one at the first intermission.

Phillips and Dowd increase GB’s advantage
Ben Bowns made a superb save from Pavlo Borysenko early in the second period, before Robert Lachowicz and Matthew Myers worked the puck well on the left-wing to feed Jonathan Phillips for GB’s second (22:52).

Sam Jones hit the left-hand post before both sides made a netminder change with Jackson Whistle replacing Bowns for GB and Patrik Polk replacing Zoltan Toke for Romania.

Cade Neilson did well to keep the puck in the zone to set-up Robert Dowd for a one-timer from the top of the left circle (32:58), while Mike Hammond hit the right-hand post with a low shot.

Mosey, Kirk and Ruopp put seal on GB win
Romania netted their first goal of the tournament as Tamas Farkas slid the puck through the five-hole from the left circle (42:28).

GB scored their fourth when Kirk fed Evan Mosey at the backdoor (49:51), while Mosey was denied on a penalty shot by a good save from Polk.

Neilson set-up Kirk to score from close range for his second of the night (52:56) and 18 seconds later, Kirk broke down the right-wing and fed Sam Ruopp for GB’s sixth (53:14).
