Great Britain came from 2-0 down to beat Ukraine 3-2 in the IIHF European Cup of Nations at Murrayfield Ice Rink in Edinburgh.
Lucas Brine started between the pipes and there was a first senior men’s appearance as back-up 18-year-old Ben Clarke-Leach.
There were also senior debuts for defencemen Jake Hayward, Rhodes Mitchell-King and Alex Rimko, along with forwards Ivan Björkly Nordström, Finley Bradon, Brynley Capps and Austin Mitchell-King.
Oleksii Vorona’s neat toe-drag set-up Feliks Morozov on the doorstep for a powerplay goal (14:37) before Victor Zakharov scored on the rebound to give Ukraine a two-goal lead (22:16).
Logan Neilson went top-shelf with a beautiful finish from the left-circle on the powerplay to reduce the arrears (30:18).
Liam Steele’s superb feed found Patrick Larkin in the slot to tie the game (35:23).
Liam Kirk broke into the zone and fired across the netminder to win the game in overtime (60:22).
In the day’s first game, Slovenia beat Poland 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.
GB are back in action tomorrow against Slovenia (18:30) while Ukraine and Poland go head-to-head at 14:00.
