Forward Ollie Betteridge (Nottingham Panthers) has been named as Great Britain Captain for this weekend’s IIHF European Cup of Nations in Sosnowiec.
He’s joined on the leadership team by Alternate Captains Joe Hazeldine (Glasgow Clan) and Josh Waller (Guildford Flames).
GB will face hosts Poland, along with Italy and Slovenia, in the four-team tournament from Thursday 6th to Saturday 8th November at the Arcelor Mittal Park Arena.
Betteridge said: “It’s such a huge and special honour to be named as Captain of Great Britain for this tournament.
“I’m thrilled to be working with two great players – Joe and Josh – on the leadership team and both of them will be important in the locker room.
“We have some great young talent with us this weekend and they’re the future of the national team. We’re excited to see many of them get their first taste of senior international hockey.”
After two days of camp at the Skydome in Coventry, GB left Luton Airport on Wednesday morning for the flight to Poland.
The team had their first training session on Poland ice ahead today of Thursday’s opening game of the tournament against Slovenia.
