Great Britain have secured the silver medal at the men’s Under-20 World Championship Division II Group A in Bucharest with a 2-1 victory over Romania on the penultimate day of the tournament.
Korea won gold and promotion with one game remaining with an 8-1 victory over Spain who are relegated, while Romania, Croatia and China stay in contention for the bronze medal on the final day.
GB netminder Ben Clarke-Leach made 38 saves in another impressive performance.
Neat link-up play between Edgars Vengis and Kyle Carruth set-up Brynley Capps to put GB ahead with a neat finish from the slot (04:35).
Clarke-Leach turned away eight shots in the first period included a great save to deny Robert Szekeres.
Bailey Yates cut across the the top of the left-circle to the slot and fired the puck past Calin Mardale (25:05) for the only goal of the second session.
Alpar Kovacs reacted first to a rebound and scored from the slot on his backhand to reduce the arrears for Romania to one (52:51).
Romania lifted netminder Mardale for the extra skater but GB held firm for their third victory in four matches.
There’s no action tomorrow before GB face China in their final game of the tournament on Saturday (10th January) Face-off is 12:30 (10:30 GMT).
