Watkins Impressed By GB U20’s Progress

Great Britain Under-20s head coach Tommy Watkins says he is happy with the squad’s progress following the recent trial in Nottingham.

The GB U20s will be the first Great Britain side to play in a World Championship tournament this season when they go to Megeve from 12th to 18th December.

GB will come up against hosts France, as well as Japan, Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine in the Division 1B tournament.

A total of 35 players attended a camp at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham as the coaching staff were able to evaluate current GB players and some new to the program.

Watkins said: “It was a productive camp and one which went very well.

“The first session was a mixed practice to evaluate fundamental skills and game sense, with the second session split into two teams for a game.

“The speed and intensity was high and you could see the guys are hungry to be selected.

“GB head coach Peter Russell attended and led the practice which allowed myself to focus on the selection for the squad.”
