Great Britain Under-18s warmed up for the World Championship in Tallinn with a 7-4 victory over Cony Island on Friday night.

Sam Duggan gave GB the lead at 6:23 before Lauri Sudmela (10:09) tied the game at one.

Two goals in 23 seconds by Glenn Billing (11:07) and Luc Johnson (11:30) made it 3-1 to GB and Callum Queenan made it four (15:13).

Owen Bradshaw’s goal at 19:08 ensured GB had a 5-1 first period lead.

GB swapped netminders at the midway point of the game with Renny Marr replacing Denis Bell.

Jonathan Wallius (37:32) and Juho Toiviainen (47:03) made it a two-goal game, but GB hit back as Mike Stratford made it 6-3 at 49:20.

Adam Finlinson scored GB’s seventh at 54:23 and Wallius netted his second of the night for Cony Island (55:40) to finish the scoring.

Head coach, Martin Grubb, said: ‘It was a very useful workout for us as a team and allowed us to see the players in a competitive game.

“We got off to a very good start and our first period was exactly what we asked the players for.

“We got a little sloppy in the second but we knew we would make some mistakes and it is important we learn and rectify them for Sunday.

“The Finnish team gave us a good test and we thank them for that and we are ready to move on to the tournament proper now.”

GB now move onto to Tallinn for the IIHF World Championship Division 2A tournament and play their first game on Sunday against Korea (2:30pm UK time).
