One of the best trips of my career, says Dowd

Great Britain forward Robert Dowd says the World Championship Division 1 Group A in Budapest has been one of the best trips of his career so far.

GB have beaten Slovenia and Poland but lost to Kazakhstan in their opening three games of the tournament.

Such is the tightness of the six-team group, promotion and relegation is still possible for all of the teams.

Sheffield forward Dowd has 56 caps to his name since making his GB debut in 2008-09.

“This is a crazy tournament and everyone says they have never seen anything like it,” said Dowd.

“It has been one of the best trips with GB as we are playing – and competing – at such a high level.

“Winning gold last year in Belfast was special but to be on such a big stage and doing well is a really enjoyable experience.”

Just three points separate group leaders Kazakhstan from bottom side Slovenia and third-placed GB face Italy this evening at 7:30pm (6:30pm UK time).

“We just have to keep on doing what we have done all tournament,” he continued.

“We know we are the underdog in Budapest but we have put in two terrific performances.

“The way we came back against Poland two days ago was a brilliant turnaround.

“And we have shown in our opening three games we deserve to be at this level.”
