Great Britain Under-20s put in an impressive performance as they beat Nottingham Lions 7-0 in a Challenge Game at the National Ice Centre.
The GB youngsters are preparing for December’s World Championship (Division 1B) in France.
Great Britain took the lead at 8:51 when the puck fell loose to Glenn Billing in the slot who fired low under Alan Levers.
Lewis Hook made it 2-0 at 12:22 when he found room right-hand side before firing low on the powerplay and another goal with the man advantage followed, when Cameron McGiffin’s shot went through a crowd from the blueline (14:00).
Connor Glossop netted GB’s fourth when he swept the puck under Levers 82 seconds later (15:21).
McGiffin grabbed his second at 23:10 and Lee Bonner’s neat move saw GB score their sixth (26:51).
Lions swapped their netminders at the midway point as Levers was replaced by Thomas Hovell and GB replaced Ben Churchfield with Jordan Hedley at the start of the third period.
Hook scored the final goal of the game – his second of the night – at 44:03.
GB U20s head coach, Tommy Watkins, said: “It was a worthwhile exercise. Our speed was the difference early on.
“The game allowed us to work on a lot of things, powerplay, penalty kill and so on.
“The division we are going into is a step up from last year, so we need to be prepared.
“I would like to thank the Nottingham Lions organisation for helping us with those preparations.”
Lions coach, Matt Bradbury, said: “It was a good night for us and we can take a lot from it.
“It was a good test for our players and especially good for our younger players, who saw what level they need to aspire too.
“We kept the scoreline closer than last year and I think it was a good spectacle for the supporters.”
A crowd of around 250 attended the game with the proceeds going to Special Olympics Nottinghamshire.
