Myers Has Great Olympic Memories

Forward Matthew Myers says the memories of playing in Olympic Qualification four years ago is still fresh in the memory as Great Britain begin their bid to reach Pyeongchang 2018.

GB travel to Cortina this month for a four-team tournament involving hosts Italy, as well as Serbia and Netherlands, in the pre-qualifying stage.

Great Britain topped the group at the same stage in Japan four years ago, before missing out on a place at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi at the final qualifying stage.

The Nottingham Panthers forward said: “Olympic tournaments are very special and I have great memories of our two tournaments four years ago.

“We went to Japan and were not fancied to go through but we won the group and progressed to the next stage against the odds.

“We then were grouped with Latvia, France and Kazakhstan in the final qualifying stages but came up a little short.

“But it was a great experience and I can’t wait to go through it again.”

Myers is part of a 22-man squad off to Cortina in the Alps of Northern Italy and the 31-year-old believes there is a good balance to the roster.

“We have a good squad and a great set of guys,” added Myers.

“We have experienced guys on the team which will be important.

“A lot of us have had that Olympic tournament before and it is a great feeling.

“We can’t wait to get out onto the ice now and get the tournament under way.”
