Kerlin appointed GB U16s manager

Vic Kerlin has been appointed as the new manager of Great Britain Under-16s.

Kerlin has been involved in hockey since 2007 and spent time in Ottawa before returning to the UK in 2010.

“I am a motivational person who knows how to succeed and promote self-respect and respect for others, whether on the same or opposing teams,” Kerlin said.

“I certainly believe that it is an absolute honour for the players to be selected to play for their country and they should be aware that they are ambassadors for their country both on and off the ice.

“I am also aware that a lot of these players are young people in a new environment, so it’s important for them to feel supported and to know they can approach the manager with any problems or worries they might have.

“Giving this level of support, where needed and appropriate, will, in turn, equip them to become more self-sufficient in the future and allow them to support younger or new players in the future.”

Kerlin replaces Graeme Houston in the management role for GB Under-16s who has had to stand down because of work commitments.

Head of the GB Programme Board, David Hand, said: “I would like to thank Graeme for all his work other the past few years – he has done a fantastic job.

“On behalf of GB and Ice Hockey UK I would like to welcome Vic on-board with the under-16s.

“I am certain Vic has the right attributes to bring so much to this management role and I am sure he will be a great success.”
