Hetherington officiating at under-18 womens’s tournament

UK official Leigh Hetherington is a lineswoman at this week’s Women’s U18 World Championship Division 1 Group A in Asiago.

The IHUK official is one of seven lineswomen at the IIHF tournament which involves teams from Austria, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Norway and Slovakia.

The tournament is the second tier in the under-18 women’s World Championship structure, with the winners promoted to the top flight for 2019.

Hetherington is one of two officials away this week, with Deana Cuglietta officiating at the top level of the Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Dmitrov.

Ice Hockey UK referee-in-chief, Joy Johnston, said: “It is fantastic we have two officials away this week at important World Championship tournaments.

“As I said before, it shows the high esteem that our officials are held in by the governing body and across the world.

“We are getting more and more officials coming into the programme and this shows how far they can go with the right attitude.

“Leigh is one of our top women’s officials and it is great to see her getting the recognition.”

Hetherington was on the line for the tournament’s first game today which saw Slovakia run out 6-2 winners over Hungary.

Her second game is scheduled for tomorrow when Japan take on Hungary.
