Grubb: Training Camp So Important

Great Britain Under-18 Men’s head coach Martin Grubb says the two-day camp at Ice Sheffield this week was vital preparation for the upcoming World Championship tournament.

The GB youngsters travel to Brasov for their Division 2A World Championship tournament from 4th to 10th April 2016.

They will come up against Romania and also go head-to-head with Croatia, Lithuania, Netherlands and Poland.

The squad have just completed a camp at Ice Sheffield, which included on and off-ice training.

GB also beat a Coventry Blaze NIHL Select side 6-3 in the Skydome on Tuesday night.

“I think the camps are vital at this stage,” said Grubb. “The couple of days that we get are really importrant.

“It allows us to see the players and allows them to get together, create some spirit and you see the character.

“More importantly, you get to work on your systems and your set plays and the players go away and know what is expected of them.

“We have a strength and conditioning guy in and he has talked about their health and well-being between now and the tournament.

“It gives them a taste of what they have ahead and you make sure everything is ready.

“We have another camp planned just before we go away and we will then be all set for Romania.”
