Great Britain U18 9-2 Australia U18

Great Britain Under-18s secured their second successive victory at the IIHF World Championship Division II Group A in Tallinn with a 9-2 victory over Australia Under-18s.

Kieran Brown had a five-point afternoon with a hat-trick and two assists, while Liam Kirk and Cade Neilson scored twice.

Australia took the lead at 3:30 as Michael Riley broke free and slotted the puck past Lewis Davies.

Moments after shooting just wide, Brown equalised for GB when he stepped out from behind the net and went top shelf across netminder James Downie (14:15).

Britain were ahead less than two minutes later as Neilson put away a rebound at 16:08 for a 2-1 first-period lead.

Brown scored his second of the afternoon 15 seconds into period two on a rebound from Kirk’s shot (20:15) and then turned provider to set-up Kirk for his first goal of the tournament (24:10).

Kirk didn’t wait long for this second as he slotted home 23 seconds later (24:33), while great work from Mason Alderson-Biddulph freed Neilson for his second at 28:08 (short-handed).

On the same powerplay – and 10 seconds later – Australia grabbed their second through Kale Costa (28:18), before Brown completed his treble as he raced clear and fired past Downie at 34:13.

Alderson-Biddulph broke free and fired low from the left circle for GB’s eighth (42:00) and Jordan Buesa went top shelf on the doorstep at 47:25 to complete an impressive victory.

There’s no games in the tournament tomorrow but GB return to action on Wednesday when they face Poland at 1pm (11am UK time).
