GB U20 3-8 KOLNER HAIE

Great Britain put in a battling performance but were beaten 8-3 by Kölner Haie in their second game at the Watersley International tournament in the Netherlands.

GB stuck with one of the top junior sides in Germany for half the game and now have a win and a defeat following Friday’s 4-0 victory over Belgium.

Kölner Haie took the lead as Elias Aul scored at the backdoor on a five-on-three powerplay (3:27), before Jan-Luka Meißner made it 2-0 with a shot from the point through traffic during a short spell of four-on-four (12:08).

GB closed the gap under two mintues later as Brynley Capps and Connor Lee combined superbly to set-up Kyle Carruth to score from the left-circle (13:50).

Til Raab scored an outstanding Michigan goal for Kölner Haie as he stepped out from behind the net to flick the puck into the top corner on the powerplay (22:31).

Lee fed Noah Kaariainen who eased into space and scored on a five-on-three advantage as GB reduced the arrears again (26:22).

Rabb reacted first to score on the powerplay for his second of the night (30:26) and then completed his hat-tick with another outstanding goal.

He exchanged passes with Raphael Jakovlev after forcing a turnover and danced through the GB defence for his treble (33:05), before Philip Rubin scored from the slot on a five-on-three powerplay to make it 6-2 to Kölner Haie (38:21).

GB kept battling and an outstanding skate from Lee saw him break down the right-hand side and swing around the net to set-up Carruth for his second (43:31).

Rubin scored a neat backhand penalty-shot (51:25), before Goal Kölner Haie. Elias Aul cuts inside from the left and fires across the net to score on the powerplay. Great Britain 3-8 Kölner Haie.

GB complete the three-team tournament against host Netherlands on Sunday (13:00 BST).
