GB U18 Women 1-0 Korea U18 Women

A goal from Emily Harris with only 84 seconds remaining helped Great Britain U18 Women beat Korea U18 Women 1-0 at the Under-18 Women’s World Championship Division I Group B in Katowice.

Harris bagged her third goal of the tournament while netminder Ella Howard secured a 26-shot shutout.

GB were outshot 9-7 in the first period but Chloe Headland and Harris came close to opening the scoring on the powerplay.

Britain controlled most of the second session as Headland and Grace Garbett were denied by Huh Eun-Bee, while Harris saw her shot saved as the period came to a close.

At the other end, Ella Howard had to be sharp as GB killed-off three successive penalties.

In period three, Harris broke clear from the blueline but her low shot was saved by Eun-Bee, but she scored the game-winner with a one-time shot after a great pass by Garbett.

Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “I was so pleased to see the way we stuck at it and persevered.

“After the disappointment of letting the lead slip yesterday, it was important the girls went into the game with the right attitude.

“They all worked so hard and saw off a lot of penalties and the coaching staff were very impressed with that.

“Of course, it would have been nice for it to be a little more comfortable but we showed great character to grind out the win.”

After tomorrow’s rest day, GB return to action on Sunday when they face Norway U18 Women (3:30pm UK time).
