End of An Era for Alma Greger

Popular Great Britain Under-20s off-ice staff member Alma Greger has stood down from her position as manager.

Alma has been in the role for the past four years and was part of the team which won gold and promotion at the World Championship (Division 2A) in Estonia.

She has been a volunteer in the sport for over 20 years, including roles with Kirkcaldy Ice Hockey Club and Scottish Ice Hockey UK.

Alma also spent time as national development co-ordinator for Scottish Conference teams at junior level.

IHUK chairman, Jim Anderson, said: “It was Alma’s attention to detail and organisational skills which saw her noticed by IHUK for a GB manager’s role.

“Alma’s excellent organising skills and attention to detail have always been second to none.

“During the four years that Alma held this post she has been so valuable, not only for IHUK but for the staff and players of the GB U20s team.

“She has been one of the most popular GB managers I have ever known, so much so the teams used to nickname themselves ‘Alma’s Boys’.

“Alma’s dedication to her job and professionalism was always noted by the IIHF at World Championship tournaments.

“She is an unsung hero, like many volunteers in the sport and she will be sadly missed.

“Everyone at Ice Hockey UK and GB are sad to see Alma stand down.”

Alma Greger said: “I am sad to be stepping down and I will miss everyone; coaches and management but especially the boys.

“I loved my time in the role and it was a pleasure to work for IHUK and GB.

“This was a very difficult decision to make but I felt I now just want to spend more time with my family.”
