Davies: The best moment in my career

Forward Ben Davies says scoring the winning goal to keep Great Britain in the top flight of the World Championship was the “best moment in my career”.

GB came from 3-0 down against France thanks to goals from Robert Dowd, Mike Hammond and Robert Farmer to take the game to overtime.

Davies won the game at 62:03 in the extra period to ensure GB’s survival and relegate France to Division I Group A.

“That was unreal. I can’t quite take it all in. I am almost lost for words,” Davies said.

“We just don’t know when we are beaten. This just underlines what GB is all about.

“We always knew we had a chance and even at 3-0 we looked at each other and said ‘this isn’t over yet’.

“Everyone played their part tonight. It was something very, very special to be involved in.”

Davies received the pass from Jonathan Phillips – captaining GB for the 50th time – who chased down the loose puck to feed him in the slot.

“It was an unreal pass from Jono,” added Davies. “I am not sure what made me go to by backhand but I am glad I did.

“It really is a magical feeling and to share it with this group of guys is amazing.”
