David Phillips Wins 50th Cap & 5 Debutants

David Phillips wins his 50th international cap today while Josh Batch, Chris Blight, Jonathan Boxill, Matt Haywood and Jack Prince are awarded their debut caps.

A special ceremony took place in the dressing room before today’s game with Croatia and Ice Hockey UK general secretary Andy French was on hand to make the presentations.

GB play Croatia at 12:30pm UK time in their opening game at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Eindhoven.

French said: “This was a very proud moment for all the guys. Making your debut for your country is very special.

“This is something that has been introduced by manager Andy Buxton and was started last year in Lithuania.

“Each player has their own individual number and he has done some fantastic research into all this.

“They were very special moments for each guy to get their cap.”

David Philips becomes the 21st player of all-time to win a 50th cap.

Manager Andy Buxton said: “Congratulations to David on winning his 50th cap today.

“He has given terrific service to GB in his career and this is fully deserved recognition.”
